The Open, Distance and e-Learning (ODeL) Campus held final PhD Theses Defenses today, Thursday, March 12, 2020. Ms Clare Mwango Onsarigo's thesis examination titled: "Utilization of Monitoring and Evaluation Systems, Institutional Capacity, Culture and Performance of Micro Finance Institutions Funding Entrepreneurial Projects in Kisumu County, Kenya" scheduled at 9:00am rigorously faced the pannel chaired by Prof. Dorothy N. Kyalo, Dean School of Open Distance Learning in the ODeL Campus Boardroom. Other pannelists were Prof. Charles M. Rambo and Dr. Angeline Mulwa being the internal examiners, while Drs. Mary Mwenda and Peter K. Nzuki played Board Membership role with the Graduate School Representative's role assumed by Prof. Peter N. Keiyoro.
Shortly after Ms. Onsarigo's thesis examination, came Mr. Johnson Mwangi Matu's thesis titled: "Stakeholder Participation in Project Life Cycle Management Practices and Comp;letion of Urban Roads Transport Infrastructure Projects in Kenya" at 11:30 am at the same venue. Mr. Matu's PhD thesis defense was chaired by, Prof. Charles Rambo, while the internal examiners were Profs. Dorothy N. Kyalo and Raphael O. Nyonje with Prof. Timothy Maitho and Dr. Anne Aseey being the Board Members, while Prof Peter N. Keiyoro took care of the interest of Graduate School in the meeting.
The candidates were expected to submit two (2) publications jointly published with all supervisors or acceptance letter of the two (2) publications from a peer reviewed journal from their PhD work during the oral defense.
In each case, the pannelists considered the external examiners reports, copies of thesis abstracts, which were subjected to very strict review as guided by the Graduate School regulations which sought to uphold the CUE Thesis examination requirement.
In attendance to record and capture PhD theses consolidated reports, was Ms. Mary Mumo Makewa, Senior Administrative Assistant from the School.
It is hoped and believed that many more defenses will be expected in anticipation of the graduations in the 63rd and 64th convocations slated for both September and December, 2020 respectively.
